I thought I’d take a quick moment to update you all on the continued evolution of PN2, what’s happening and about to happen going forward.
It’s been five months since this little venture began, but to be fair it’s actually been just over two years. I started PN2 with the intention of being a largely YouTube based product, videos mixed with entertainment, humour and education surrounded by the best in local and international indie games. Thing is, as much as I like creating videos (and the money you can make these days on YouTube is crazy), my first love has always been writing. So it was, PN2 evolved into a more traditional, article based website back in January.
Since then, we’ve grown our viewership (each month better than the last), more than doubled our twitter followers and talked about a myriad of different games from around the world. We’ve also gone from a solo team of … well, me … to a two man tag team featuring the work of Mike (Dr) Vane. I’m still not sure if he’s a doctor, but Mike has been a huge help in ensuring we have unique content every day of the week. That was the first major goal, consistency, and we’ve achieved that with flying colours.
Which leads us to part two of our world domination plan, Mr Bond. We’ll be adding a number of new writers, article styles and a few other surprises over the next few months, including something I’ve been wanting to talk about for a while now … board games. PN2 was originally going expand into other entertainment as well back in the early YouTube days, so it makes sense to take that concept across to the site proper. You’ll see a few cool articles pop up here and there, including a little Dungeons and Dragons, so keep an eye out for those among many other cool little bit and pieces that are in the works.
YouTube itself won’t be left behind, PN2 will get back into that scene soon enough, but for the moment it isn’t as big a priority as it may have been before. That’s largely due to time, which is something I continually have very little of (working full time doesn’t help the energy levels). It’ll happen eventually, but I’ll have more on that later.
I’ve also been working on that little indie game you may have heard about. I won’t be updating as often as I originally planned on that, largely because I don’t want to rush it, but when you do get updates they’ll be packed with juicy morals that will make it more than worth the wait.
Having said all that, PN2 can’t exist without money. Right now our writers are working purely for experience and out of the fun of this industry, and the website itself is paid for personally. It’s not cheap, and I want to get to a point where my team are supported and rewarded for their efforts. To do that, I’ll soon be introducing a new Patreon based funding program, which will feature a tiered level of support for the site that will reward you, the sponsor, as a thank you for your donations. That’s all still in the works, but I’m hopeful to have more on it for you in a few days time, so keep your eyes peeled.
I started 2016 with the hope of building something a little different, a place to share my pure enjoyment for the world of entertainment around me. To think that, in five months, PN2 has already grown beyond my initial expectations. I can’t wait to see what happens with it next, and I hope you’ll come along for the ride.
