To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega has collaborated with Japanese Guitar manufacture ESP to create four limited edition Sonic and Shadow 15th anniversary themed guitars. The Sonic guitar is printed with the iconic image from the cover of Sonic Adventure released on the Sega Dreamcast in 1998.
The SONIC-II and SHADOW-II models are both based on the signature guitar played by Sonic Team guitarist and composer Jun Senoue. The standard edition guitars feature bolt-on neck construction, an Alder body, a hard maple 3P neck, ebony fingerboard and SSL-4 quarter pound pickups. The high-end versions are upgraded with 24 Jescar frets, a GOTOH tuner, kill switch and hard case. Plus the speedster’s shoe designs are printed on the heads.
The base model will retail for 165,000Yen ($2053 U.S.), while the high-end model will go for 665,000Yen ($6313 U.S.).
Each guitar includes a certificate of authenticity, a Sonic and Shadow pick set, polishing cloth and music score. There’s currently no word on the guitars being released outside of Japan.
Sega is celebrating this anniversary in a big way. They are creating a tonne of new merchandise and a new Sonic title is expected to be announced July 22nd at San Diego Comic Con. The Japanese sure know how to party.
