Swordy, the arcade brawler with an unconventional control scheme, is revving up for a whole lot more brawling when it hits Steam early access next week. To get you up to speed beforehand, here’s a quick reminder of it’s super good arcade potential.
Essentially you’re controlling your character in a manner befitting a twin-stick shooter, except in this case your clashing with swords, swinging hammers and spinning endlessly. You use the sticks and triggers of your controller in an attempt to time your swing just right, but there’s certainly no finesse like a talented fencer here. You’re goal is to win whilst having a good time and chuckling at the absurd nature of your victory, and if you don’t know what I mean by that check out the trailer below for some examples.
Swordy comes to us from New Zealand’s Frogshark … that’s a studio name, not some mutant from a bad sci-fi movie, trust me on that. There’s the promise of plenty of game mode variety, from competitive and cooperative modes to more of a party style structure where anything can happen. Even at this early stage, the game looks very colourful and has already been through a few testing phases to nail the controls.
You can get your early access hands on the game when it launches July 22 on Steam.
