Fact: The Whale Road is an old Anglo-Saxon name for the sea.
The Great Whale Road is a story driven turn-based tactical RPG beginning in the year 650 AD where you lead a dark age’s clan in its fight against nature and foes across the northern sea.
Fact: Many different cultures occupied the lands surrounding the northern sea including the Britons, Picts, Anglo-Saxons, Frisians, Franks, Danes and Bretons.
Players select one of these cultures and their corresponding lands. Each culture had its own story-driven campaign and embarks on a seafaring adventure featuring trading, exploration, and pirates. Additional quests will be discoverable along the coasts.
Fact: The harsh winter weather and low barometric conditions meant that it wasn’t safe to sail during this season.
The game is split into two seasons – The summer is the sailing season where players select a mission and travel the whale road. Winter is spent at the settlement, managing resources and warding off winter raids.
Fact: The hand-painted art was inspired by classic European comic books.
A great deal of time and effort was spent researching and replicating the art of the period.
Fact: The Great Whale Road is developed by Sunburned Games from Valencia, Spain.
The game rows into Early Access on Steam today. You can check it out here.
