I can’t say I’m a map fan. For one, I’m terrible at reading them. Two, they’re always folded up in awkward ways in those magazines so the fold goes right over where you need to go and you can’t flatten them out properly to read them … *sigh*. Three, I have a phone now that tells me where to go, so screw you map! But hey, if you’re a Path of Exile player, you’re gonna love them even more with the upcoming Atlas of Worlds expansion.
Atlas of Worlds adds the aforementioned atlas to the game, helping you to travel deeper into the map system of Path of Exile which has been upgraded to include, according to developers Grinding Gear Games, up to 50% more end-game content. Items you pick up on your way can upgrade the atlas as you go, making it easier to discover secrets and new areas. Those new areas, mind, house a host of new boss encounters, including the chance to take on the four Guardians of the Void who you’ll need to defeat in order to face a new strange villain called ‘The Shaper’. You can check him out in the trailer below.
It’s been nearly three years since Path of Exile made its debut, and the New Zealand based RPG has been making a name for itself ever since with constant updates and new content. If you haven’t come across it yet and need a fix beyond Diablo or Pillars of Eternity, Path of Exile is worth checking out, even if you’re not a map fan like me. Heh. But seriously, having played through Diablo multiple times, I can attest to Pillars equally (if not more so) quality action.
Atlas of Worlds debuts September 2nd on PC via Steam as a free update to Path of Exiles. There’s also a host of supporter purchases you can grab from the official website if you’re into exclusive in-game bonuses or physical goods like t-shirts and cloth maps.
