Indie fighting game Skullgirls will soon be making its way to your mobile phone, and it’s bringing with it a healthy dose of new content too.
Lab Zero, Autumn Games and Hidden Variable Studios have came together to port the series to Android and iOS, with the a more casual experience than the typical button masher and a little extra story content beyond what we’ve already seen. The mobile game will first act as a prequel to the console experience in the first of many ‘chapters’ planned, along with RPG like customisation and progression systems for each character.
If you’re wondering how a typically controller or fight stick based game might work with a touch screen, the developers are also adding a handy ‘Fight Assist’ feature that allows for more of a turn-based strategy combat system than your typical ‘back, down, forward, punch’. I’m curious to see how that might work, given some other fighting games have gone with a much slower approach to combat in their translation to mobiles in the past.
There’s no definitive date set as yet for Skullgirls Mobile, but it’s expected before the end of the year, so keep an eye out on the App Store or Google Play Store depending on your device.
