Mekazoo is a 2-D platformer that channels classic 90s vibes of games like Donkey Kong Country and Sonic the Hedgehog. You control pairs of ‘mekanimals’, each with unique strengths and weaknesses and guide them through the dynamic yet perilous landscapes to defeat the insectoid army and learn the secrets of the mekasphere.

Mekazoo encourages continuous motion with fast flowing gameplay that rewards you for swinging, bouncing, climbing and flying on the go. Each of the five playable animals possesses abilities for solving the puzzles and defeating enemies. The pelican gracefully glides through the air Igniting boosters to blast through unsuspecting bugs from any angle. The panda scales walls and ceilings and slashes enemies with its claws while the wallaby bounces off walls and ceilings, crushing insectoids in its wake. The frog uses its tongue to reach and swing, and the armadillo channels a certain blue hedgehog by rolling into a ball and boosting at ridiculous speeds.

Over 30 campaign levels and unlockable challenges result in Mekazoo being a highly replayable experience. The challenge levels can be played in co-op with two players being forced to work as one to navigate the puzzles and character mechanics. Mekazoo developer The Good Mood Creators want you to know that co-op could lead to a lot of laughs but if you don’t work together maybe a lot of deaths.

The art style of Mekazoo is unique, with polished 3-D backgrounds and vibrant neon-infused lush environments. The neon colour scheme is reminiscent of Tron and Far Cry Blood Dragon. The original soundtrack is a jazzy tribute to the music of classic games.

Mekazoo is shaping up to be one of the most gorgeous and unique 2-D platformers in years. Mekazoo doesn’t have a release date but is expected soon. It will be available on PC, PS4, Wii U and Xbox One.
