If for some strange, silly reason you either haven’t read or seen The Deep, Australia’s own comic and animated series by Melbourne’s Tom Taylor, there’s a new opportunity to catch up thanks to a newly updated channel coming to free-to-air.
The Deep tells the story of the Nekton family, a group of underwater explorers who travel into the depths of the oceans to discover untold secrets and dangerous mysteries. The comic series debuted in 2011 as The Deep: Here be Dragons, published by WA’s Gestalt Comics, and won the coveted Aurealis Award for best Best Illustrated Book/Graphic Novel in 2012. The Deep: The Vanishing Island followed in 2013, whilst Taylor has gone on to write top selling DC and Marvel comics including Injustice: Gods Among Us, Superior Iron-Man and the fantastic All-New Wolverine series.
ABC Me is the new name for ABC3, the third of the Aussie broadcaster’s stations that’s main focus is kids and young adult entertainment. The Deep TV series will be joining the lineup on September 19 via the new channel and its revised online content, though if you don’t want to wait you can also find it on Netflix … but you know, that costs money and all, and we’re always trying to save money to afford all the damn video games coming out over the next three months now, aren’t we? Anyway, point is, this is the perfect jumping on point to a series that deserves your attention, so definitely check it out.
