Well, sort of. It’s not the actual League of Legends, but a spin-off of sorts based on a new idea by a small development team at LoL creators, Riot Games.
Mechs vs Minions tells the story of four Yordle’s, the dwarf like creatures that call Runeterra (where League of Legends takes place) home, who find themselves up against a horde of minions and must work together to defend their home turf. It comes from the mind of Riot associate producer Chris Cantrell and a small band of developers, who have worked together on the passion project for three years.
I confess, I’m not a League of Legends player, nor do I know much about the world (I honestly had to look up what a Yordle was … dwarf seems as close to an explanation, I suppose). But I am a board game lover, more so in the later years of my geek life, and I get the feeling you won’t really need to know much about the massive multiplayer game to get into this either, which bodes well for the likes of me.
You’ll be able to get your own copy of the game when it hits the Riot store (and possibly elsewhere, depending on its success) from October 13th for $75 US.
