Of all the movie’s based on a video game IP announced or released over the past year, this is the one no-one expected … and yet, it does make sense.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, independent production studio Good Universe has signed an agreement with indie studio Campo Santo to co-develop video game and feature film content. The first project? A film adaption of the acclaimed indie hit, Firewatch, of course!
To be fair, it’s an interesting enough story to develop into a film, though the question remains whether we will see the movie through the eyes of Henry the fire lookout as in the game itself, or just a direct adaption of the story itself and not the game’s design. Either way, hopefully there’s a place for voice actors Cissy Jones and Rich Sommer, who put on some awesome performances (in the case of Jones, her entire performance is on the other side of a radio.
It’s too early into the partnership to expect a release date, but you’d bet some time around 2018 at the earliest. Hopefully by then fans will still have Firewatch on the brain, unless the talented team at Campo Santo have more content in mind? Time will tell.
