The addictive arcade shoot em up The Bug Butcher has finally made its way to iOS and Android. Originally released for PC back in January, The Bug Butcher puts you in the boots of an intergalactic exterminator who’s tasked with clearing a research facility of the alien infestation.
Gameplay is simple. Move left and right always aiming up and simply hold the fire button to take out increasingly difficult waves of enemies. It’s a modern take on the classic Space Invaders formula. Enemies drop power-ups allowing you to increase fire rate, damage and freeze them in place. You earn coins for killing bugs which can be used to upgrade your array of weapons that includes a rocket launcher, laser and Gatling gun.
Awfully Nice Studios are the original developers although the mobile port was handled by Noodlecake Studios. I reviewed the PC version of the game back in March and said “The Bug Butcher is one the best side-scrolling shoot em ups I’ve played in years.” I should also mention the beautifully hand drawn art.
The Bug Butcher is a premium game and is priced accordingly. It’s $4.99 AU on Google Play and $5.99 AU on the App Store. If you are looking for a mobile game that’s challenging with a lot of depth that also sticks clear of the ‘freemium’ formula I highly recommend The Bug Butcher.
