A small team of avid Sonic fans are hard at work on a 3D Sonic game titled Sonic Utopia which aims to capture the best of Sonic’s style and tie it together into a cohesive experience.
Youtube user TheGreateLange posted a video of gameplay footage for the open world game which features the aesthetics of the early games in the series. TheGreatLange said, “Nearly everything in this demo, from art to sound to the gameplay engine, was made from scratch.”
As it’s only a fan made game, Sonic Utopia may never be completed especially if Sega insist on it being taken down, although on the official Sonic Twitter, the moderator had been taking pot-shots at Nintendo for sending out cease and desists, and went as far to say “Keep making great stuff, Sonic fans.”
Sega is also working on two new Sonic games set for release in 2017. Sonic Mania was announced earlier in the year as a remix of the 2D Mega-Drive Sonic games, and another has yet to be unveiled.
In the meantime, you can download a demo of Sonic Utopia which should fill the 2016 Sonic void and we wish the Sonic Utopia team all the best in their endeavors.
