The Australian Centre for the Moving Image have long been supporters of the video game industry, having run a number of events over the years. So it makes perfect sense that the centre, that explores and promotes the moving image of every kind, will be exploring the growing world of Virtual Reality during Melbourne International Games Week.
The ACMI VR Festival (code named ‘Game Changer’) is a free event that runs this Thursday, November 3rd from 12pm to 8pm. You’ll be able to go hands on with a number of HTC Vive units and explore underwater worlds, scale Mount Everest and perhaps learn a thing or two about the technology and its future possibilities.
A number of new VR experiences will be on show, including the chance to get up close with the Sydney Dance Company, even one that has you playing as an intimate ghost, whilst the likes of Title Brush and Valve’s The Lab will also be on show for players of all ages to get hands-on with.
If you’re still unsure about this entire VR thing, or haven’t had a chance to try one yet, head on down to the ACMI this Thursday and partake in this free day. You might surprise yourself, maybe get a laugh or two, and come out with it with a renewed excitement for the future of video games and entertainment as a whole.
