We’ve had a lot of heroes in video games, many of which take it up to alien interlopers and dangerous bad guys. But if an upcoming brawler has its way, we will soon be playing legends both famous and infamous from real world history in a 90’s inspired platforming adventure.

brawl02Amelia Earhart and H. P. Lovecraft in an over the top experience inspired by the likes of Heroes of the Storm, Super Mario and Ratchet & Clank among others. Why? Because an evil arcane sorcerer has unleashed upon the world a devastating power that brings nightmares to life from anyone that comes too close to it. Luckily for us, histories greatest have come together to defend us from this new threat.

Dark Tonic are currently running a Kickstarter campaign to help bring the experience together. The plan is to bring in a total of 32 possible heroes to play as, and a few names dropped include Houdini, Mark Twain and Gandhi himself. The team are also aiming for a release on Steam, Xbox One and PS4, with Steam coming first (given how easier it is to publish on the platform, it makes perfect sense).

Now I know what you’re thinking, “But Mark, I’ve been wanting to back a Kickstarter, but how do I know whether this will be worth backing?”. Well to ease your mind, Dark Tonic aren’t just any old developer. The team has 20 years of experience under their belts with a number of team members having worked across a number of big name IP’s over the years, including the most recently released Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. They’ve also previously released two mobile games to market, one of which I’ve previously played (the rather humorous Attack of the Wall Street Titan).

Whether the game makes its targets or not, it’s a fun looking concept that appeals to the old school platform fans. You can check it out for yourself via the official website and you an back it with a few days remaining on Kickstarter. We wish the team all the best with the remaining hours of the campaign and going forward.brawl
